New Advocacy Office Opens on Capitol Hill
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul USA (SVdP) inaugurated a new advocacy office located on Maryland Avenue on Capitol Hill on Friday, April 4, 2025. The opening event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Cardinal Christophe Pierre, the apostolic nuncio to the United States. Cardinal Pierre blessed the new office space, praying for its success in serving the poor.
This second national office aims to increase awareness among politicians regarding key issues surrounding homelessness and poverty. The organization reported serving over 5 million people nationwide last year, providing more than $1.4 billion in aid, which included substantial financial assistance to prevent evictions.
Ingrid Delgado will lead the new D.C. office as SVdP USA’s director of public policy and advocacy. Delgado, who previously spent four years with the U.S Conference of Catholic Bishops’ government relations team, expressed excitement about bringing the experiences of those served by SVdP directly to policymakers. She emphasized the importance of this effort, particularly amidst discussions about potential cuts to social programs like SNAP and Medicaid. Delgado hopes the office will establish the Society of St. Vincent de Paul as a reliable source of information for elected officials on the needs of vulnerable populations within their districts.
