New Documentary Release: “The Boy from Milan”
On April 2, 2025, the Augustine Institute is releasing its second documentary in the “Based on a True Saint” series. Titled “The Boy from Milan,” this installment focuses on the life of soon-to-be saint Carlo Acutis and will be available on the faith formation streaming platform Formed.
The film aims to deepen viewers’ understanding of the Church’s first millennial saint and illustrate how an ordinary teenager’s deep love for God and people led to sainthood.
Featured Interviews and Production Insights
The documentary includes new interviews with three people who knew Carlo Acutis personally: his mother, Antonia Salzano Acutis; his high school religion teacher, Fabrizio Zaggia; and his pediatric oncologist, Dr. Mercedes Arguello.
Emily Mentock, the executive producer, shared that Acutis himself was the inspiration for the entire documentary series, which seeks to answer if holiness is achievable today. She noted Acutis’ popularity stems from his relevance to modern times, offering hope for attaining holiness. Mentock also mentioned the profound impact Acutis had on those interviewed, particularly Dr. Arguello, who drew strength from Carlo’s testimony during her own cancer diagnosis.
Inspiration for Viewers
The creators hope the film inspires viewers through Acutis’ example of “daily holiness.” Mentock emphasized that Acutis serves as a powerful example, especially for young people, showing that it’s possible to live boldly for the Lord and make a difference regardless of age.
In related news, EWTN has also produced a documentary on Acutis, titled “I Am With You,” which is currently available on EWTN On Demand.
